Tea is known to man for more than thousand years and has many health benefits for humans. Its main health benefits are from the dynamic nature of the potent antioxidants present in it. By curing and processing the leaf-buds, leaves and inter nodes of the plant [Camellia sinensis], in different ways the various varieties of tea are obtained.
These processed leaves, by addition of hot water or by boiling in water, give an extract which is the beverage tea.
Of the various processes, the best is the green tea production which has many benefits and health value.
By wilting and drying leaf-nodes, leaves and internodes without oxidation or fermentation green tea is produced.
Health benefits
Green tea contains many undiscovered components. Polyphenols, a type of antioxidants abound in the extract.Catechins, a type of polyphenols, are the most important antioxidants found in the extract.
Catechins make up to 30% of the dry weight of freshly processed product.
The catechins present in green tea show potent activity which is 100 times more potent than the well known antioxidant vitamin E.

Health benefits in slowing aging process
Aging process is brought about by the free radicals and the hormones released during the biological processes.Moreover the free radicals reduce our immunity and decrease our resistance to diseases.
By binding themselves to the free radicals, the antioxidants in the tea retard the aging process and give us the benefit of freedom from diseases.
Health benefits in reducing obesity and heart ailments
Saponins present in this tea help us in proper metabolism of the fats and protect us from obesity related diseases.The components in the extract are believed to regulate cholesterol levels with marked increase in good cholesterol and reduction in bad cholesterol.
Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG or epigallocatechin-3-gallate) is a type of catechin present in abundance in the extract. It prevents clot formation and help in the free flow of blood in the blood vessels which in turn reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks.
ECGG is found to arrest the development of prostate and lung cancers.
Fluorides, vitamin C and polyphenols present in green tea prevent plaque formation, tooth decay and gum diseases.
