Nature pictures
'Nature' is a comprehensive term referring to physical occurrences in the world of animate and inanimate objects surrounding us. It can also be defined as the forces and processes controlling all the phenomena of the universe. Nature is everything that is not made by human beings. It exists around us independent of our activities. It can also be defined as the phenomena of the living and non-living things. It is dynamic, forming, existing and passing into oblivion with the least interference from humans.
The term 'nature' is variously used to mean wildlife, forests, wilderness, landscapes, geological phenomena, geographical oddities, weather and the phenomena of the Earth and the entire Universe. Many happenings in the nature often occur as fleeting moments and nature pictures captures them for posterity.
Landscape
Pictures of nature coming under landscape category depict the visible features of the landforms and water bodies. These include a wide range of physical elements like mountains, ice-capped mountains, hills, vegetations, forests, deserts, wetlands and polar regions. They also include water bodies, ponds, rivers, lakes, seascapes, oceans, coastal landscapes, beaches and islands.Man-made landscapes include man-made structures like, buildings, highways, bridges, dams and industrial buildings. They also include farms, estates, plantations, parks, reservoirs, botanical gardens, theme parks and arboretums. Taking pictures of landscape is easier when compared to those of wildlife.
Wildlife pictures
Taking pictures of wildlife is very challenging. It specializes in making observations of wild animals in their habitat. It requires sound technical skills, knowledge about the subject animal and patience to wait for the right moment. The pictures usually depict the life cycle, life processes, raising of the young ones, feeding habits and breeding habits. Habitats, survival strategies, adaptations, interspecies competitions, and intraspecies fights for the survival are also interesting subjects. Pictures of small animals like bees, dragonflies, mushrooms, flowers and tiny plants also come under this category.Geological pictures
Geological pictures try to give insights into the natural phenomena in the formation and evolution of the Earth including its oddities. Natural hazards like avalanches, earthquakes, sinkholes, tsunamis, floods, landslides and volcanoes can be included in this category. Pictures of caves, canyons, stalactites, stalagmites, water springs, craters, plateaus, ravines and hot springs also come under geological pictures.Weather and climate
Weather pictures include nature pictures of rain, lightning, snowfall, frost, auroras and various type of clouds. Tornadoes, dust storms, typhoons, hurricanes, thunderstorms, extra tropical cyclones, sandstorms, ice storms, snowstorms and blizzards also come under this category. For capturing these one has to have to brave the severe weather conditions.Space pictures
Pictures of the Space objects are taken from the Earth by employing powerful telescopes and other astronomical apparatus. Earlier optical astronomy was the main method of observing the celestial bodies like moon, planets, sun, stars and galaxies. With the advances in the observational equipments, pictures of far distant star systems are taken by capturing the radio waves, infrared light, ultraviolet light, x-rays, gamma-rays and cosmic rays emitted by the celestial bodies. With the advent of the space exploration and travel these pictures can be taken with least interference from Earth's atmosphere. Another outcome of space travel is the observation of the Earth from the space. Very advanced equipments are required to make observations of the distant star systems. The pictures of the planets, moons, sun and comets, asteroids can be taken with relatively smaller telescopes and from the Earth as well as from the spacecraft.
